How about a general topic? This is what most teachers ask when we are drafting topics for the next academic year. You may be surprised at how much your kids think they have to say, and how little you actually know about them. Maybe you have had a couple of friends or acquaintances say something like, 'You know my son loves sports, he tells me all the time.' If you have ever heard a parent say, 'I know my son's favorite movie is X-Men,' it could actually be a general topic for your essay topic.
